Good luck having nothing broken. Airlines made a mistake. In the states the laws are all over the place, but one constant is that just because they allow smoking or vaporizing, edibles are completely different. I just don't understand why and I can't really find anything regarding it. Some say that the "strengths are not allowed" but edibles are made in a variety of strengths. It's more a question about edibles than it is about laws, and I figured you'd have some experience with edibles as a doctor who prescribes marijuana.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-22936033946161730762016-09-21T17:45:06.419-06:002016-09-21T17:45:06.419-06:00If you look down the posts, you will see some of m...If you look down the posts, you will see some of my posts commenting on the process in Canada for Medical Marijuana. Their requirements to set up dispensaries are ridiculous compared to other states, it has taken them 3 years to finally approve 15 growers and 15 dispensaries. They just approved them last month, so I presume the dispensaries are breaking ground/signing leases right now. They also ban edibles.

Why would they ban edibles but support smoking, vaporizing, extracts, tinctures, lotions and ointments? Is there something that I'm missing about edibles? I went to Colorado, had a weed vacation and found that edibles were the best thing for my chronic pain, which I have had for 20 years. I'm disappointed that I won't have access to that form of marijuana, especially since I have asthma and the idea of inhaling stuff doesn't sit well with me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-51625471103429114562016-09-20T19:20:42.295-06:002016-09-20T19:20:42.295-06:00These youngsters today certainly do not mind chang...These youngsters today certainly do not mind changing the words to important professional statements. Take the Nightengale Pledge which was actually loosely based on tenets of The Hippocratic Oath. There is a line in the pledge about a nurse being loyal to physicians that these smart alecky young nurses have updated to reflect more independent nursing practice. When I worked in the OR I was happy to do whatever I could for the surgeons because my flying hemostat ducking skills were suboptimal. If you disagree with the Hippocratic Oath feel free to update it just like the neophyte nurses did with the Nightengale pledge.Oldfoolrnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01747485143127099085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-56350188701415793272016-09-19T08:02:59.795-06:002016-09-19T08:02:59.795-06:00At first I thought you were making a joke about th...At first I thought you were making a joke about the "hypocritic" oath. Your mention of electric beds brought up an old memory. One of the early designs for electric beds involved a very complex design to isolate the electrical components from the patient. The patient control buttons were actually miniature pneumatic pistons connected to very thin plastic tubes. When the patient pressed a control button, the piston increased air pressure in the tube actuating the electric motor. I often marveled at how complex the solution to a simple problem could become. Everything worked OK with these pneumatic electric isolation beds until one of the control tubes leaked. At least we were supplied hand cranks as a back up.Oldfoolrnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01747485143127099085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-25962509547559268072016-09-05T20:28:38.249-06:002016-09-05T20:28:38.249-06:00I suspect if you marketed a three legged IV pole w...I suspect if you marketed a three legged IV pole with no wheels you would be hailed as a genius,Bleeding Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11654470738092202883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-58521388248177043372016-09-05T20:27:34.737-06:002016-09-05T20:27:34.737-06:00I have been in ORs that have them. Just be careful not to bang your head. Wheels on an IV pole are not a wise idea especially in the OR as they introduce instability and increase surface area to trip over. Wheels also limit the contact point with the floor to a very small area. There is no good reason to use wheeled IV poles. Simply pick them up when you want to move them. Our old fashioned IV poles had 3 solid legs and were strong enough hold multiple IV bottles and if you are in the cysto room never fear just pile on those irrigant containers - that old school IV pole is not going anywhere.Oldfoolrnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01747485143127099085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-27101447131167197762016-07-05T07:58:42.154-06:002016-07-05T07:58:42.154-06:00Actually we have a duty to inform as well. In the UK we now have the duty of candour - we must tell patients about any mistake involving them, even if it was completely inconsequential. On the one hand I strongly believe honesty is the best policy, but on the other this also requires patients (and colleagues) to be understanding and objective in their judgement, which is sometimes not the case.scratchPRNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08811829318381129854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8325605184495137942.post-75233024095802349752016-03-20T11:41:14.768-06:002016-03-20T11:41:14.768-06:00Congratulations on coming out of the closet, so to...Congratulations on coming out of the closet, so to speak. Don't worry about many people identifying you by person since most of your readers probably don't live in Alberta. I have continued to try to stay anonymous for the exact same reasons you outlined. However, for anybody who lives in the Los Angeles area, they probably have a pretty good clue about which hospital I work in, though not necessarily actually identify me by name. You too may have noticed that I had a pretty bad case of writer's block for the past few months. My muse kind of got up and left for more fertile ground. But eventually you'll find something too juicy not to write about then all of a sudden ideas will start flooding your creative side again so don't give up. I enjoy reading your perspective on anesthesia and medicine from north of the border.
By the way, don't worry about poor evaluations from chronic pain patients. They really are that, a pain.
